The eagle is used all over Italy as a symbol of strength and power.

The last eagle is on the wall at the edge of Orvieto…..taken at sunset.

  1. Wow! How long did it take you to compile that lot? Impressive…

    • Not long….there are lots of eagles in Italy.

      • I have expressed this before… that your powers of observation are amazing, all too obvious in your wonderful photographs! Even with my flashy SLR, I could never hope to compete with your vision… I will look out for eagles though in future visits!

Good luck with the new camera by the way.

      • Thanks….I love sniffing out the details.

  2. Amazing images, Debra. :)

    • Thanks, I had fun taking them.

  3. Debra, once again, my kind of photographs – wonderful observation. Thanks. Ciao Carina

    • Once you start looking for these things they are everywhere.

  4. yes, I agree–your ability to see the details helps create beautiful photos. thank you for sharing.

  5. You’re amazing Debra…what a collection! I love the brass eagle second from the very end.

  6. As you righly say, eagles are found everywhere in Italy. They have been used as a heraldic symbol from the times of Ancient Rome when the legions adopted it, possible because one of its meanings is immortality, together with strength and farsightedness.
Next time you owe me a few photos of griffins or gryphons, with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. When you go to Peruggia, you will find plenty of beautiful examples. And even in Finland…

    • I have spotted a couple of griffins but I am a long way from a collection.

  7. an awesome, as in full of awe- those eagles, collection. It is a lot of work to put together a page like this and we really do appreciate your beautiful work.. c

    • Thank you, I love looking for details.

  8. Beautiful collection! But I totally covet that door knocker!

    • It is an impressive door knocker, I would love it on my door.

  9. For the last two days I’ve seen an eagle flying directly over my head around the lake. It has been hunting and I am always in awe of its beauty!

    • I occasionally see them in our mountains. They are wonderful.

      • Wow, that is great! I love all your photos BTW. I know I don’t always comment but your posts are really some of my favorites. You have so much detail in your photography and your descriptions are exquisite. :)

      • Thank you! I feel the same way about yours.

      • :)

  10. What a fascinating and stunning collection of images. Fabulous idea for a post!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • I am now working on something else.

  11. Great compilation

  12. Very interesting post! thanks Debra! Maybe I forgot to inform you that I put your WP Blog in my blogroll.

    • I’ll do the same with yours. Debra

  13. Impressive collection!

  14. So many variations on the eagle. Well done … interesting tidbits in them as the army helmet.

    • That one was not as old as the others.

  15. Love this… it’s so much fun to have a particular thing one is looking out for. I do cats (living) and old faded signs that are painted directly on buildings. Can’t wait to see whatever it is you’re working on now – any hints for your followers??

    • I have done doors, knockers, faces, hands, feet and bottoms and I have a few other things lined up, including other body parts, angels, fish, washing…..and whatever else I can find lots of.
