New things in Helsinki

I have been to Helsinki many times and I have spent a lot of time photographing the beautiful buildings and places of interest in the city. Fortunately there is a new park between Kiasma, the gallery of contemporary art, and the new music building.

I think it makes Kiasma look even more impressive, now that the space around it has been opened up.

The new music building is also impressive.

On a beautiful sunny autumn day lots of people were out enjoying the new park.
In the nearby old park I spotted a sculpture I haven’t seen before.

This is Larin Paraske. Her knowledge of folk poetry enable some of this work that would have been lost, to be written down. Thank you to P. Pusa for this information.
Mannerheim is in his usual place keeping watch over the main street of Helsinki

The naked workers are still doing their thing in the centre of town.

The harbor will be bustling tomorrow when the annual Herring Festival begins. I’ve been twice before and it is a lot of fun. The usual market is still there. I love the way boats are backed up to the wharf and people sell their wares from the water.

The types of produce are quite different from those at home. These mushrooms look very appealing.

There are lots more pictures of beautiful Helsinki in previous posts. The Art Nouveau buildings are particularly impressive. Take a look in the Helsinki category to see more of this lovely city. Better still, come to visit one day.

  2. Enjoy Helsinki! I didn’t even realise the new green park around Kiasma when I was last time there. But indeed, it makes the building even more inviting to visit… and I love how green everything still is!

    • I love Helsinki. I feel at home there and love to wander around the city.

  8. Love the shots of the boat ‘market’ and especially the mushrooms; I always think they are the most intricate and unique works of the Creators hand; simply beautiful in their elegance. Molto grazie…….ancora!!

  9. The happy “man” is Larin Paraske. National romantic artists were inspired by the folk poetry she knew. Thanks to her memory a lot of it has been also written down for future generations.

    • Thank you for correcting me. I will adjust the text.
