Colour my world

I love colour, so when 2Summers, a great blog by Heather, who lives in South Africa, nominated me to join a contest called Capture the Colour, I thought I would take part.

The blog award/contest is sponsored by TravelSupermarket and the idea is to write a post featuring photos that capture the five following colours: blue, green, yellow, white and red. I searched through my photos and found these. I couldn’t settle on just 1 from each colour, there are just too many to choose from.

BLUE:

This lovely little statue was in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast.

The Arno is not always blue, but it was the day I took this photo of a lone rower from the Ponte Vecchio. I love the ripples left behind by the oars. It could also have been in the White category because of the boat.

These makeshift blue waterproof boots took my eye on a wet day in Venice.

I had to include our baby blue Fiat. I wrote this post in 2010 and it has been my most popular post ever. It has had more than 3,000 hits. I think it is time Fiat gave us a car.

The next photo was taken from the window of a Finnair plane as we were about to land in Helsinki. I love the shades of blue.

Green:

Bagni di Lucca turns all shades of green in spring.

I love green tree frogs, and this one lives on my Brisbane balcony.

I would like to be around when these figs get ripe in Portovenere.

The little green boat captured my attention in Ajaccio, Corsica.

Sardinia is a phtotgrapher’s delight. This cute green boat was floating off the coast at Porto Cervo.

Yellow:

Autumn in Bagni di Lucca is my favourite time of year.

Zucchini flowers in the food market in Florence look gorgeous.

The yellow shoe stood out at Guidi leather in Pescia.

Nothing is a cheerful as bright yellow flowers. These were in Paris.

White:

The cemetery in Bonifacio, Corsica is said to be the second most beautiful in the Mediterranean. I would like to see the one that beats it. This could also be in Blue…..decisions, decisions.

This church in Porto Cervo surely has to be one of the cutest in the world. This could be Blue too…for obvious reasons.

The huge white magnolias were out in force in Lucca in spring.

I love the white glove, and the guard at the Vittorio Emanuelle building in rome is cute too.

This huge white seagull attracted quite an audience in Rome.

The stunning white cathedral in Helsinki looks wonderful surrounded with snow….once again, it could be Blue.

Red:

The Carnevale in Viareggio is a fun place to people watch.

The Joker was also at the Carnevale in Viareggio this year.

I loved these red shoes at the Sagra del Tordo in Montalcino.

Sunset in Lucca can be spectacular.

I photographed this prize winning rooster at the Ekka ( a festival where the country meets the city ) in Brisbane last year.

The next 2 photos taken in Paris include all the colours…just for fun.

The really difficult bit is to pass on the award to 5 other bloggers. I have tried to pass it on to those who might like to be involved. Some of my favourite bloggers have already received the award and some may not be interested. Anyway, here is my list, please take a look at their lovely blogs.

Dakota.D….a great photography blog

Reinventing the event horizon….say hello to Kathy

A  Taste of Travel….great travel photos and tips

The shooting star…an intrepid Indian girl’s world travels

Just add attitude…..reporting from Ireland.

PS

Two of the bloggers I nominated don’t want to take part, so I am adding 2 more. They have great blogs with excellent photos, take a look.

Responses

  1. Gorgeousitosus Deb – the blue makeshift wellies brought back memories of our time in Venice

    • I remember trailing around after him trying to get a photo.

  2. Great shots! I’m glad you enjoyed participating. I knew you would 🙂

    • Of course I picked too many photos, but I couldn’t choose. I do love the red boy at the Carnevale and the red shoes, and the blue boots……a hopeless case really.

      • It’s funny…I had trouble choosing between photos for a couple of the colors (strangely, I found the most options for yellow and white), but for others I really struggled to find one that I thought was good enough. Blue and green were the hardest for me, I guess because I didn’t want to choose “sky” or “grass” (thought that would be too boring). Anyway, fun exercise.

      • It was fun. The competition people have asked me to choose one from each colour….too difficult.

  3. Lovely photos..I love the blue ‘boots’ in Venice

    • We followed him for a while to get that photo. It was high water in Venice and we saw some sights.

    • doors.txt;5

  4. I just knew you’d be a natural at this Debra. Stunning photos and so much variety. I love them all but the autumn leaves in yellow are my special favourite.

    • Last autumn was just about perfect.

  5. Belle belle Debra!! mi piacciono moltissimo le tue foto! Hope that Bagni di Lucca and Italy will bring you luck for the contest! 🙂

    • Beautiful Bagni di Lucca…I’ll be back soon.

  6. Well done! I particularly like the sculler (damn, wish I’d been there for that one!) and the rooster.

    • I love the rower…right place, right time….and that rooster was posing.

  7. I love your photos Debra. What a great idea putting them all in.I would have hated to miss any of them. My favourite is also the first red photo of the Carnevale in Viareggio. Thanks for nominating me…I also put a post up this morning for the competition and nominated you!!

    • I love the red boy too. I sent you an email this morning. I think we crossed emails and posts

  8. A nice challenge – and great for us, because you had to dig around to find this great collection of photographs. For me, it’s the rooster at the EKKA – how weird is that!

    • He was a pretty special rooster.

      • Prize winner and all – I’d say so, Debra. 🙂

      • It seems unlikely with entries from all over the world.

      • Some of the entries sure are wonderful, but as you said, he is a very special rooster!

      • He was definitely posing for the camera.

      • Love it!

  9. great selection of images Debra, I also have a post with my favorites. Love the carnevale image against the red. ciao lisa

    • That is probably my favourite too.

  10. wonderful selection!
    loved your details, as usual.

    • Thank you, I had fun going through the photos.

  11. Very creative idea for the collection. Love it!

  12. Such wonderful detail shots of colours Debra! What a fun challenge! 😀

  13. Yet another way of culminating all of the beauty in your life, Debra. All the best in the competition — can’t imagine how anyone else’s could be better.

    • I have seen some wonderful photos from others, take a look at Third Eye World, hers are gorgeous.

  14. Thanks so much for the award, Deb. I’m honred. I read about this over at 2Summers, as well. I may try it, but please forgive me if I don’t. I have a lot on my posting plate at the moment–and don’t have a collection of fun photos–like you and Heather. I will take a look, however. This looks like a fun challenge–one that would indeed become one for me.

    Love you photo selection!

    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • Please don’t feel pressured, just do it if you want to.

  15. Sorry, can’t spell today. I’ll blame it on my summer cold.

  16. Wonderful color photos, Deb – they demonstrate your considerable photographic eye!

  17. hey, I’ve got very similar pix of the Finnair wing. http://codereddy.wordpress.com/2012/07/08/eye-in-the-sky/

    • I love your Finnair photos.

      • Thanks !

  18. WOW Debra, these are all so beautiful! I love the rower, I used to row when I was a teenager and it’s just a lovely image. Nicely done!

    • I love the ripples on the water.

  19. Fabulous entry Debra! Wow I love them all. You did an excellent job!!!!!

    • Thanks, yours are gorgeous.

    • I love the green photo on your blog, it looks like a winner to me.

      • Thanks!

  20. Thanks for nominating me Debra! Your pictures look lovely, especially the yellows =)

  21. Great selection of images. I hope that you win the contest and that Fiat give you a car!

    • It is a long shot…on both counts.

  22. Hu-what!? Bagni di Lucca cooperating to these chain blogs.
That boat picture needs to be entered to a contest! Fo’ real!

    • I don’t usually take part and I may never do so again, but this liked like fun. I was is the right place at the right time for the rower.

  23. such beautiful colours in there Debra. Some of those photos are truly perfection.
as for your fiat post, I COMPLETELY understand the multiple hits. I love that little car!

    • There are still not a lot of them in Brisbane and our little bambino gets lots of looks.

      • My eldest is determined to buy me one when he is older. They are such a smooth looking car.

  24. It”s such a beautiful world; one life time is not enough is it. I don’t think it’s possible to play favourites here either. The little Madonna is perhaps the most touching and pretty.

    • She was tiny and sitting in a glass case at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello. She is also framed and on the wall in Casa Debbio.

  25. Superb collection. Some of my favourites of your photos here. If I had to pick one for each of these: for blue the rower, green the Corsican boat, yellow the leaves, red the carnevale, white porto cervo church-but not enough Bagni di Lucca in those, so maybe swap the green!

    • The competition people made me choose only one from each colour and I chose the blue rower, the yellow leaves, green Bagni di Lucca, white Bonifacio and red carnival, close to your choices. I have seen some of the other entries and they are gorgeous, so there is little hope for me.

  26. I like the rowing one myself! XX

  27. Maybe your most beautiful post ever, Deb. I loved the rowing photo too, and the one of the statue..oh, and the one of the rooster. Actually, I loved them all. 🙂

    • Thank you! Except for the Fiat and the red shoes these photos are just from this year. I didn’t go back any further.

  28. […] Bagni di Lucca – Colour My World […]

  29. Your photos are brilliant Debra! Loved the green boat and the white too! And the rooster of course 🙂 He is the star! Great job….good luck!

    • I have just been back at the Ekka and spent lots of time in the bird pavilion….again.

  30. […] Debra of Bagni Di Lucca and Beyond – Lots of Italy Blogs out there. She will give them a run for the Best Italy Blog and Travel Blog of the Year. She is one of WordPress most recommended blogs for Travel. I can’t possibly list them all up. Here’s her entry for Colour My World. […]
