Hong Kong food market

I love to wander in food markets, and Hong Kong has some wonderful streets with interesting things to see and smell.

There are several street markets on the narrow alleys leading down from Hollywood Rd…come for a food walk.

Some things are easily recognisable.

These poor crabs have been tied up to prevent escape.

I love the pretty quails eggs.

Some things are not so easily recognised. Underneath these chickens

were some very odd looking things.

I don’t know if these are animal or vegetable.

I think these are vegetable, but I don’t know what they are.

It would be fun to experiment with some of this strange looking food.

  5. I do love Chinese markets and the Hong Kong one is great. A feast for the senses! I miss Asia and I go to Chinatown whenever I am in San Francisco. plus it is next to North Beach or Little Italy and I can go to Café Puccini and have a REAL cappuccino and a chat with the lovely lady from Bagni di Lucca. It’s a small world!

  8. Sounds like a fun place to visit. I love markets like this. I recently bought some quail eggs just because they were so beautiful. Sara blew out the insides to make an omelet, and I have the shells in a bowl in my studio.

    As Hong Kong is an island, I expect all their produce would have to come from mainland China? I didn’t expect to see such tasty looking displays coming from China!

    • I think the produce would be sourced from many different places. The food in Hong Kong is diverse and wonderful.
