Verona balconies, including that balcony

There are many beautiful balconies in Verona.

The balcony that every visitor to Verona wants to see is Juliet’s balcony, despite the fact that it was built in 1936 to take advantage of the fame of Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet. The area is always crowded, so the plan worked.

You can see “Juliet’s Balcony

You can rub poor Juliet’s breast.

…and perhaps rub a bigger hole into her right breast.

You can add a note to the wall.

…add one of these ridiculous locks.

Scrawl some graffiti on the wall.

…or, worst of all, stick a wad of chewing gum to the wall.

Isn’t that romantic?

Don’t judge Verona by this travesty, it really is a lovely city. Click here to see the good bits.

  1. Right on!

    • Police are now stationed at the entrance to prevent more grafitti, but they just stand there and watch people do it.

  2. So Colorful…

We need to be careful not to hit anybody head on while walking through these streets 🙂

All will be looking up only… 🙂

    • I am a bit surprised I haven’t crashed into anyone. I am always looking up.

  10. Just back from Verona. It is a lovely city. So glad I didn’t notice the chewing gum wall at ‘Juliet’s house’.

  11. Te balconies are gorgeous and Verona is a beautiful city; however, I don’t think that te chewing gum, locks, etc. Should be tolerated. It is plan vandalism.

I’m no longer lying in my hammock, as I had to start a new blog. http://anotherday2paradise.wordpress.com/

  19. Oh my. What is it with the gum? (gross) When I was there, the trend with the locks hadn’t happened yet.
In my mind I remember that alleyway being even narrower than in your lovely photos.

  20. Beautiful shots of Verona balconies Debra. A pity about the gum and graffiti.
