Catch the wind

I am at Main Beach on the Gold Coast for a while. Late this afternoon I went for a walk along the beach. It was quite windy and I was delighted to see kite surfers in the water.

There was one in particular who caught my attention. He was fascinating to watch.

He was clearly having the time of his life. The look of delight on his face made me smile. He was incredibly skilled at handing the kite and the board…take a look.

…and just watch him fly. I’m sorry the photos are a bit blurry, but it is just my ordinary camera and he was moving very quickly.

Even this seagull was impressed.

Kite surfing looks like incredible fun…I wish I was 16 instead of 60.

The next day I found another one for you to admire.

    • This is where I grew up. I absolutely love the surf. I think it would be incredible to be able to kite surf. I was imagining myself up there on that board…of course, it will never happen.

  3. Love the pictures following the flight of the kite-surfer – such a fascinating sport! I often wonder how the skier keeps his feet on the board – special glue or something? What a joy to skim and soar over sea and air! Sport in our time (50s and 60s) was kept very simple. I remember skimming along wet sand on a skim-board. That was fun, too!

    • I remember our coolite body boards that would rub the skin off your belly if you were in the water too long…which we always were. I also remember falling of skim boards and hitting the hard, wet sand.

      • Yes, I remember those coolite boards! The board was so light that I felt as if I would be carried away with the wind whooshing underneath it instead of riding along with the waves. No matter, it was still lots of fun! We were lucky to enjoy those simple pleasures.
