Tapas

I have not been a huge fan of tapas until I went to Movida in Hosiers Lane in Melbourne. It is not easy to get a booking at this popular restaurant, but if you go just as they open at midday it is usually possible to find a spot at the bar.

I was alone, so I only have 5 delicious tapas to show you.

Anchovy on crouton with smoked tomato sorbet. This explodes with flavour in your mouth.

Movida

Duck liver pate with pickled cucumber on grilled sourdough.

Movida

Pressed pork sandwich, tomato jam and quail’s egg.

Movida

Baby cos with anchovy and pickled garlic.

Movida

Fried zucchini flower filled with scallop mousse served with bisque mayonnaise.

Movida

I have enjoyed good tapas in Barcelona, but the Movida take on this is stunning. I think they need to open a branch in Brisbane.

If you are in Melbourne you must try Movida.

    • I think there is more than one Movida in Melbourne, but I have only been to this one. The first time I went a chap sitting beside me at the counter told me I had to order the anchovy with the tomato sorbet. I am so glad he did, it is amazing.

      • I think, from memory there are 2 others – also excellent – we go at around 8 pm and it’s always packed but then it’s not very large

      • Yes, there are two. I did go years ago to the first one, I recall this event quite clearly now. We were with two greedy friends who weren’t so good at sharing small plates. Must go with Mr T, or do what you do- visit alone.

  7. I was intrigued by your photos and the name of the place. The tapas looked yummy and innovative and I looked at their website…https://movida.com.au/about/
Yes, the owner was trained in Spain and even the Spanish Consul in Melbourne recommends the place.
But wait until you come to San Sebastián, Debra, it is the very best for tapas, or “pintxos” as we call them….

  13. Oh my, this looks so very different from most of the tapas I’ve had in Spain. The best were in San Sebastián – a local friend took me to several places that elevated Basque tapas (they call them pintxos) to an art form. I am thinking of going to Melbourne sometime next year so will keep Movida in mind!
