Paris in spring

We’ve been to Paris for a few days. It is an easy and inexpensive trip from Pisa and who doesn’t love Paris in spring?

The best way to see Paris is to walk and that is what we did. We stayed near Republique, so our walk began and ended there each day.

Paris

The Marais is one of my favourite areas in Paris.

The Uniqlo shop is in an old foundry, what an excellent use of an old building.

We walked towards the river.

The Bateaux Mouches is also an excellent way to see the city. We were lucky with the weather and sailing on the Seine is a great way to spend an hour. You can take a hop on, hop off along the way, but we just did the loop to see the sights.

It is always lovely to walk through the Tuileries, the beautiful gardens near the Louvre. Some of the garden beds were in transition, but the peonies were just about to bloom and beginning to look very pretty.

A visit to Le Bon Marche, possibly the loveliest department shop in the world is always needed. How I wish I lived beside the food market. The area around it on the left bank is wonderful too.

We took the metro to Montemarte. Despite the ridiculous crowds, this area is very beautiful.

The queues to get into Sacre Coeur were far to long so we gave up on that and found another lovely little church nearby were there was almost nobody.

We walked back to Republique from Montmartre. It is an interesting walk.

It is easy to see why Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world. It is incredibly beautiful, the food is great and the people friendly and helpful. (They really are)

  2. Ahh… What memories! I was in Paris just before Christmas in ’76. I wish I could have seen it in springtime. I love that you captured an image of Rodin’s “The Kiss” in the garden – I didn’t get to see the gardens; it was too cold. Rodin is one of my favorite sculptors. Did you get to go to the Rodin Museum in Meudon, near Les Invalides? If not, make it a point on your next visit. His terra cotta bust of his lover, Rose Beuret (I think that’s how her name is spelled) when she was very young is just stunningly beautiful! They won’t let you use a flash inside the museum, but with your digital camera, you can set the ISO higher and get some great shots of the master’s works. I’d love to see them (again!).

    Thanks for sharing!

    • We didn’t get to the museum, but we are hoping to go back next spring for a longer time so we do have time to see some museums. I was delighted to come across Rodin in the garden.

  4. Debra – Again my thanks. So many precious moments do you conjure up with your captivating photographs. Both very personal, with dear friends, and of earlier times when I visited Paris with the theatrical production Oh What a Lovely War, from London. It was awarded Grand Prix at an International Drama Festival, before becoming more well known and eventually a major film. I only regret that my touring days are now over. Kevin Palmer.

  9. I really love your shots of Paris’s most famous landmarks as well as contemporary artwork strewn all over the city. I was in the French capital only for a few days on my month-long trip to Europe back in 2007, and I really wish I will get the chance to return someday — and stay longer.
